Visiting Researcher
If you are currently enrolled as a PhD candidate at another university (either in Germany or abroad), and wish to conduct research at DLGS for a limited period of time, you can also apply as a visiting doctoral candidate. Provided the eligibility criteria is met.
Eligibility criteria
- Work proposal within scope that clearly addresses the scientific profile and remit of DLGS
- Detailed work plan for the duration of your stay
- Complete online application (in English only) with all supporting documents requested.
A complete DLGS application includes all of the following components:
- Letter of motivation
- Certificates and transcripts of academic qualification (MA, BA, higher education entrance exam)
- English proficiency level test certificate (e.g. TOEFL, IELTS, TOEIC)
- Online application form filled out and submitted (incl. all the above documentation)

As a Visiting Doctoral Candidate you will be offered a working place at the DLGS offices, where you will follow the DLGS program and activities that other PhD fellows also take part in. You should also enroll as an exchange student at TUD. Further information can be found in the FAQs.
Please note that DLGS raises no tuition fee neither does it provide any financial support for applications received for short-term research stay.
