Management and Governance

The governance structure of the DLGS ensures strategic orientation, scientific quality control and interdisciplinary support for the graduate school and its fellows. It comprises the Management Board, the Advisory Council, the scientific coordinator, as well as organizational arrangements for individual supervision and mentoring (supervisory board).

Management Board

The Management Board is the executive body of DLGS. It is in charge of developing the overall scientific profile and program. The board is composed of four full professors of TUD, two of which are also staff members of IOER, and the DLGS scientific coordinator. It is chaired by the Director of IOER.

Members of Management Board

Prof. Dr. Marianne Kneuer, Chair of Political Systems and Comparative Politics, Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Science, TU Dresden

Advisory Council

The Advisory Council includes renowned experts from a range of fields, both national and international. It advises the Management Board on strategic as well as practical questions concerning the future development of the DLGS. Members of the advisory council are also involved in evaluation of the DLGS candidates and outreach of the program.

Supervisory Board

Part of the support and guidance for DLGS candidates is the formation and meetings of the supervisory board, composition of which is unique to each candidate. The members of the board include the first supervisor, a second supervisor, and possibly a third supervisor. All supervisors are University professors, and/or have equivalent qualifications to supervise a doctoral dissertation at TUD.

Each DLGS candidate is additionally supported by a personal Mentor, working at IOER who also participates in the meetings. The Mentors are senior scientists who offer orientation and help regarding diverse scientific and practical issues. The meeting of the supervisory board are held biannually.

Scientific Coordinator

The Scientific Coordinator is responsible for designing and implementing the academic program and its formats, as well as the selection, evaluation and supervision process for the doctoral candidates.
