About DLGS
The Dresden Leibniz Graduate School is a structured doctoral program in the field of spatial sustainability science, with attractive scientific collaborations and a tailored academic program. It is a joint interdisciplinary facility of the Leibniz Institute of Ecological Urban and Regional Development (IOER) and the Technische Universität Dresden (TUD), and was established in 2008 to address the spatial implications of grand societal challenges. The graduate school is supported by the Leibniz Association. DLGS is independent in designing its scientific program, committed to scientific excellence, and subject to regular international peer review.
DLGS scholarships for key topics are advertised once a year (June), but are also available for topic propositions anytime. Joining DLGS with other funding as well as temporarily as a visiting researcher is possible all year round.
The DLGS doctoral program is taught and conducted entirely in English language. The outcome of the program is a successful defense of the doctoral dissertation. A dissertation can be written as a monograph: the research written in a collective format as a book; or cumulative: series of interlinked journal articles published in peer-reviewed journals.
It is aimed at graduates with a Master's degree in any field of pertinence for studying spatial sustainability transformations, such as geography, urban and regional planning, urban studies, environmental sciences, science and technology studies, transition studies, geoinformatics, civil engineering, architecture, economics, sociology, political sciences, or anthropology, among others.

Concept and Organisation
The aims of the DLGS are to prepare the next generation of transformative leaders in spatial sustainability sciences. It strives to foster the academic and professional skills required to meet the diverse challenges related to spatial change dynamics and the global human-ecological crisis.
The DLGS strives to develop novel insights and approaches to face the challenges of spatial sustainability transformations. We encourage and support pioneering studies across a broad range of disciplines.
The governance structure of the DLGS ensures strategic orientation and interdisciplinary collaboration. It comprises a Management Board and an Advisory Board, a coordinator, as well as arrangements for supervision and mentoring.
The DLGS offers an interdisciplinary 3-year programme that aims to equip candidates with knowledge and skills necessary to successfully defend their doctoral dissertation.
